hibernate her gently

Had an AWESOME visit with Emily over the weekend! We had a lot of time to sit and talk with each other, and had some yummy food too (take out chinese! chilis! lunch at noshville! pancakes at pancake pantry)!! The name of this post refers to our trip to Big Bang, a dueling piano bar in Nashville. It was HILARIOUS when they sang Fuck Her Gently by The D, but subsituted hibernate in place of fuck because they weren't supposed to say fuck while singing, I guess. The pictures are from our night at Big Bang.

You will also likely notice that I've grown my beard back. Yes folks, I'm allowed to keep facial hair with the exception of three classes. So, that makes me quite happy, as you might imagine. (It also makes Emmy quite happy, since I looked like a baby-faced weirdo without my beard.)

Anyway, it was such a fun weekend, but it was over waaay too soon. I was back in Kentucky before I could even blink. I miss my Emmy terribly and I can't wait until I get to see her again. The good news is that I have, in fact, found something to occupy my time when I'm not at work. Training with Crescent Springs Fire has been going really well. So well, in fact, that the Chief and some of the officers invited me to hang out at the firehouse and help out during all the bad weather this week. I had a blast, even though I don't think I was a whole lot of help. I was glad to be there and do what I could with the limited training I have so far. 2-minute drills at Fire Academy are SERIOUSLY hard work, but I think I'm getting it.

I know it makes Emmy (and my mom) nervous that I'm training to be a firefighter, but my training will help me be safe, and help keep others safe. And I'm not gonna go charging into burning buildings like a crazypants, I'm going to make sure I am safe and situation-aware at all times, because I gotta look out for numero uno so that I can be around for my baby for a long, long time!

That's about all I got... sorry for the rambling post, but it's been a while since I updated and I had lots of cool stuff to talk about. K bye!

no beard

Sadness... I had to shave my beard for fire academy.

steelers win AFC division playoff

Farrior was a friggin' machine at the Steelers game last night. I wish I could have been there to see it in person, but that was an incredible game against the Chargers. My MVP pick for the game is DEFINIELY #57, James Farrior. This win means, of course, that they Steelers are going up against Baltimore in the AFC Championship game - only one stop away from a seat at the SuperBowl! Personally, I'm hoping for an all-Pennsylvania SuperBowl. (Meaning the Eagles beat the Cardinals and the Steelers beat the Ravens - couple of birdy teams there... lol.) Anyway, just wanted to post and say that I enjoyed the game last night. It was a nice distraction before the work week started again.

Things I did NOT enjoy doing last night? Shaving my beard off for Fire Academy. Made me very unhappy. I miss my facial hair. Oh well... like Emily said... only for 5 months, and I might be able to grow some of it back in before the class is over anyway. We will have to see.

counting down the days

I miss Emily already. It made me sad at first when I had to say goodbye again, but I was still glad to see her even for just a moment this afternoon. And Emmy is right, as usual - I need to follow my own advice and find one good thing to smile about each and every day. Today was especially easy because I saw my baby today, and that's enough to make me smile for TWO days!

I'm counting down the days until I get to see you again, poohbear. I miss you.

coney madness!

Had a nice afternoon with Emily yesterday and helped her with computer stuff for her presentation at CCDS. She called me a little bit ago this morning and told me the presentation went really well and she ended up being able to have lunch with Charlie, too.

Last night Emily and I had dinner with her folks at Goldstar - it was CONEY MADNESS!! 99 cent coneys all day yesterday. I had 5. Yes, I am a tubbo. But they were so good! Heh.

We failed our fire inspection at work today. Most of it is easy-fix stuff - missing outlet cover, combustibles near the water heater, etc. We were warned for the second year in a row about the exit signs not being lit. I don't know if that's our responsibility or the landlord's. We also had an expired fire extinguisher. Mostly I'm just glad that a) it was all little stuff, and b) it was Erlanger FD doing the inspection and not Crescent Springs.

Emily's gonna swing by work today and give me a hug on her way out of town, heading back to nashville again. I miss her already.

drill night

Got fitted for my FD bunker gear over the weekend, and got to drill with it for a bit tonight. I'm REALLY looking forward to fire recruit class starting this monday.

More than that, I'm looking forward to Emmy being home again tomorrow! She's only home for a couple days, to give a speech at CCDS about her career path and the program she's in at Vandy. I'm so proud of her.

Anyway... short update I guess. That's it!
